UVA is filled with people doing interesting things, and newly-retired Landscape Architect Mary Hughes is one of them. After beginning her career teaching French and English, Mary turned a hobby into a new educational and career path in landscape architecture. Twenty-six years after she joined the Office of the University Architect, Mary is stepping away for another interesting chapter in her career. She and her husband will run Jump Mountain Vineyards in Rockbridge Baths, an enterprise they started in 2006. Sounds like a great place to visit on a spring Saturday! Healthcare Heroes banner at UVA Medical Center

This week, leaders from UVA Health and Augusta Health came together to ask community members to get vaccinated. UVA Medical Center CEO Wendy Horton spoke at a press conference on Tuesday about the toll the latest surge in COVID-19 cases is taking on regional hospitals, including the UVA Medical Center. Our healthcare heroes have been working tirelessly for two long years, and all of us can alleviate the pressure they face every day by getting vaccinated, wearing masks, social distancing, and washing hands carefully. Emergency Departments should be reserved for emergencies, and community members should contact their primary care physician if they are feeling sick. For information about vaccination and testing sites (including those sponsored by UVA Health), see the VDH Blue Ridge Health District website. Let's all do our part to help our healthcare heroes in the fight against COVID!
