Women's Swimming & Diving ACC Champs Again, Legislative Reception, First Glimpse of Spring

While we celebrate the achievements of our student-athletes, our hearts are with the people affected by events in Ukraine.

Our student-athletes are impressive, excelling in competition and in the classroom. Last weekend, the women's swimming and diving team won its third consecutive ACC Championship and its 18th overall. They won 14 events, setting three American records in relays and four individual UVA and ACC records during the championship. Congratulations and go Hoos!

UVA representatives gathered with legislators, staff, and others in Richmond on Monday

On Monday, I visited Richmond with other UVA representatives to meet with legislators and legislative staff. President Ryan and Chancellor Henry addressed the group and advocated for UVA and UVA-Wise priorities. This is a busy time in the General Assembly, with proposed legislation working its way through each house, including budget bills. Key dates in the 2022 General Assembly session are posted on the State Government Relations site. The session will adjourn sine die on March 12 and reconvene on April 27, after the Governor takes action on legislation.

We got a first glimpse of spring on Grounds this week. With temperatures reaching the mid-70s, students, faculty, and staff spent as much time outside as possible. All it took was a quick walk to spot a small class meeting outside the Rotunda, daffodils pushing up shoots in flower beds, and winter jasmine beginning to bloom on the slope in front of Carr's Hill. Bring it on!
