I can still, vividly, feel the heat rising from the practice “field” asphalt and my tennis shoes melting! Visiting the Cavalier Marching Band rehearsal last Thursday night definitely brought back many fond memories of my time…especially those blistering summer rehearsals…with the Lake Braddock High School marching band in Fairfax County. Watching our incredibly talented musicians also reminded me of how fortunate UVA is to have such a premier marching band and a dedicated cadre of gifted instructors. Great job this season with all your themed halftime shows and stand tunes! This was the highlight of my week…and a highlight for everyone attending our UVA football games this season!!

I also had the opportunity to spend an evening walking Grounds with our UVA Security and General Safety Committee. This is such an important and necessary task for us to do every fall and spring, as it enables us to assess firsthand the physical safety conditions of lighting, pathways, crosswalks, emergency phones, etc. just as our students, faculty, staff, and community experience them. Thank you to Associate VP for Safety and Security and Chief of Police Tim Longo and his team for coordinating these walks!
