It was such a treat – literally and figuratively – to check out the new, high-tech Gaston’s Market in Gaston House. Not only did VP for Communications and Chief Marketing Officer Dave Martel and I grab a few snacks recently, but we also met the market’s Retail Manager, Talicia Ivery. Talicia walked us through the advanced technology that makes this such an efficient food stop for our students, faculty, and staff. If you’re wondering… the market’s very first purchase was for microwavable beef stew and the most popular purchase so far has been ice cream. #UVAeats

Exciting times as we count down to the grand opening of the new Virginia Guesthouse hotel and conference center next fall! UVA Foundation CEO Tim Rose and I were honored to be featured in a recent article by Virginia Business highlighting this significant and much-needed project for UVA and the region. The Virginia Guesthouse will offer close to 29,000 square feet of conference and meeting space, rooftop gathering space, and a lobby living room. This multi-purpose facility will also provide our students with a welcoming center for studying and socializing. Construction began in October 2022 and replaces the old Cavalier Inn on Emmet Street. I am so proud of the exceptional work accomplished by our “thoughtful, committed” UVA employees across the Charlottesville area as part of the United Way’s “Day of Caring.” It was great to see so many of our HR and Facilities Management staff volunteering their time and talents Wednesday morning to help the Virginia Discovery Museum. Thank you, too, to our many other EVP-COO teams completing projects at regional nonprofits, camps, schools, and faith-based organizations.
