New Beginnings
With all that is going on as we begin the new year, I couldn't resist sharing a bonus 4th thing this week! - J.J.

I was excited to kick off the year with the beloved Miss Kathy and Khabijah from UVA Dine's Fresh Food Company at Newcomb Hall. They offer great smiles (even while masked) and warm greetings along with tasty food! It's the people that make UVA a special place.

The beginning of the fall semester is one of my favorite times of the year, with new school supplies, new subjects to learn, and new people to meet. As a mom, I recognize the look in the eyes of our new students' parents. This video captures the excitement and other feelings so well.

As a leader in sustainability, UVA is ready to embrace the challenge to eliminate single-use plastics across Grounds. You'll notice compostable products in our UVA Dine facilities and other places, such as trash can liners. As you begin the new year, carry a refillable water bottle and follow UVA Sustainability for more information about how you can make a difference!

Opening Convocation and Final Exercises are the bookends to a student’s time at UVA, and our Operations team plays a big role in making those ceremonies happen. This year, we had Opening Convocation ceremonies for the Classes of 2024 and 2025 to make sure that our Second-Years got to have this important part of the UVA student experience that didn't take place last year due to the pandemic. Our Facilities Management team’s attention to detail is exceptional, whether it is carefully arranging chairs for UVA ceremonies or maintaining the Grounds throughout the year. I am proud to work with them every day.
